COLUMBUS, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting that claimed the life of 18-year-old Kalielah Davis late Friday night in Columbus.
The incident happened just before midnight when officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in a residential neighborhood. When they arrived, they found Davis suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel immediately rendered aid at the scene before transporting her to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in critical condition. Despite extensive life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigation Underway
Detectives and crime scene investigators worked into the early hours of Saturday morning to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the shooting, whether a suspect has been identified, or if any arrests have been made.
Officials confirmed that the case is being investigated as a homicide. They are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area at the time of the shooting to come forward.
“This is a heartbreaking case involving someone so young,” a police spokesperson said. “We are working diligently to piece together the circumstances and bring closure to the family of Ms. Davis.”
