CHOCOWINITY, N.C. — Authorities in Chocowinity are investigating a fatal domestic-related shooting that left one dead and resulted in the arrest of 26-year-old Cody Mitchell. The tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, September 7, 2025, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence in the community.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on Highway 102 in Chocowinity. Upon arrival, officials found both the victim, [Victim Name], and the suspect, Cody Mitchell, inside the home.
The victim was immediately airlifted to ECU Health in Greenville for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, [Victim Name] later succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting.
Cody Mitchell was taken into custody at the scene and is facing murder charges. He is currently being held without bond at the Beaufort County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
