HORNE LAKE, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a deadly incident that occurred inside a Walmart SuperCenter on Goodman Road late Sunday evening, leaving 27-year-old Ledarius Clayton dead and a store employee in custody.
According to the Horn Lake Police Department, officers were called to the 4150 block of Goodman Road at approximately 10:35 p.m. on September 7, 2025, following reports that Clayton had been injured inside the store. When officers arrived, they discovered him suffering from what appeared to be a laceration to his abdomen in one of the main aisles. Emergency medical personnel rushed Clayton to Baptist DeSoto Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators spoke with multiple witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage, which revealed that Clayton had entered the Walmart and immediately confronted a specific Walmart employee. A physical altercation ensued in one of the store’s main aisles, during which Clayton sustained a severe laceration to his abdomen. The employee subsequently distanced himself from the scene.
Authorities later detained the Walmart employee involved in the altercation; however, no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police emphasized that this was an isolated incident and that no other Walmart employees or patrons were believed to be in danger during the event.
“This is a tragic situation that has left the community shocked and grieving,” said a Horn Lake Police spokesperson. “We are working diligently to understand the circumstances that led to this altercation and are reviewing all available evidence.”
The Horn Lake Police Department continues to gather witness statements, analyze surveillance footage, and investigate the events that led to Clayton’s death. Officials have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the department immediately.
