GREEN, Ohio — A tragic accident in Green has claimed the life of a 17-year-old male in the early hours of September 7, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on South Arlington Road at approximately 2 a.m. Deputies arriving at the scene discovered a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi overturned in a ditch after having left the roadway. Investigators determined that the teenager, the sole occupant of the vehicle, lost control while traveling southbound. The car left the road, entered a ditch, and overturned several times before coming to a rest.
Emergency personnel transported the teen to Summa Health Akron with severe injuries. Despite their efforts, the young driver succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have not released the name of the driver, citing his status as a juvenile.
Preliminary findings from the Ohio State Highway Patrol indicated that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor. No other vehicles were involved, and investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Green community is left mourning the sudden and tragic loss of a young life. Officials are reminding the public of the dangers of impaired driving and the critical importance of using seatbelts, especially for teenage drivers.
