Harris County Woman Identified in Fatal Shooting; Investigators Call Incident Targeted

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (September 9, 2025) — A northwest Harris County neighborhood is reeling after the late-night shooting death of a young woman, now identified as Kaylee Taylor, in what investigators believe was a deliberate act of violence.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded just before midnight Monday to reports of gunfire in a residential community near the 14000 block of Stone Pine Drive. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the 22-year-old woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the shooting as “targeted,” noting that early evidence does not suggest a random attack. “This was not a case of someone firing indiscriminately into the community,” Gonzalez said. “We believe the victim was specifically targeted, and our investigators are pursuing strong leads.”

Neighbors reported being startled awake by the sound of multiple gunshots. Some described seeing a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed, though deputies have not yet confirmed suspect or vehicle details. Homicide investigators spent several hours canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with witnesses, and collecting surveillance video from nearby homes.

The Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified a suspect or possible motive, but investigators emphasized that Taylor’s death appears to have stemmed from personal circumstances rather than a random encounter. “We want to assure the community that we do not believe there is an active threat to other residents,” Gonzalez added.

Family and friends are mourning Taylor’s sudden and tragic loss. Loved ones gathered Tuesday morning at the scene, describing her as a bright, caring young woman with her life ahead of her. “She had the biggest heart and was always there for her family,” one relative shared tearfully. “We just want justice for Kaylee.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be reported to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division at 713-274-9100 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477). A cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.

As the investigation continues, the community remains shaken by the violence that ended the life of a young woman whose future has been forever stolen.
