Cedar Rapids Police Investigating Wednesday Afternoon Shooting

Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Police Department is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of 27th Street NE.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area after receiving reports of gunfire. While officers were en route, they were notified that a victim with an apparent gunshot wound was being transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. The individual’s condition has not yet been disclosed.

As a precautionary measure, a nearby school was placed in secure status for a short period of time while officers assessed the situation. Officials have confirmed that the school was not directly involved in the incident, and students and staff were kept safe throughout.

Investigators continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. At this time, police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available.
