Derrynane Township, Minn. (September 11, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash in rural Le Sueur County claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman Thursday morning and left a community in mourning. The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Minnesota State Patrol, confirmed that Mackenzie Jo Glaser of Belle Plaine died at the scene after her vehicle collided with a van and trailer at a rural intersection.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:12 a.m. at the intersection of Le Sueur County Road 28 (320th Street) and County Road 32 (211th Avenue) in Derrynane Township, located about three miles north of Clear Lake near Lexington. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene immediately following reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
Sequence of Events
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2003 Chevrolet Express van, pulling a car hauler trailer loaded with another Chevrolet Express van, was traveling eastbound on 320th Street. At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Glaser, was traveling northbound on 211th Avenue.
Authorities stated that the Malibu failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the van and trailer as it entered the intersection. The Malibu came to rest in the north ditch of 320th Street, east of 211th Avenue. The impact left the vehicles badly damaged and debris scattered across the roadway.
Victims and Injuries
The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, Mackenzie Jo Glaser, 23, of Belle Plaine, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile female passenger, age 1, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for observation. Authorities have not released further details about her condition, but she is believed to have survived.
The Chevrolet van was driven by Christopher Call, 49, of Carver, Minnesota. Two passengers were also in the van: Justus Call, 18, and a 14-year-old juvenile male. None of the occupants of the van or trailer reported injuries.
Response and Investigation
As of 9:45 a.m., the Minnesota State Patrol remained on-site assisting the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office. Crews were observed reconstructing the scene, marking the roadway, and deploying a drone to capture aerial images of the wreckage. Both County Road 28 and County Road 32 were closed for several hours to allow investigators to work safely.
The Sheriff’s Office noted that fog may have been a contributing factor, as weather conditions in the area at the time of the crash were poor. According to South Central MN Public Safety Incidents, two air ambulances were requested but ultimately turned away due to limited visibility caused by fog.
Agencies on Scene
Multiple emergency agencies responded to the fatal collision, including the Montgomery Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, New Prague Fire Department, Le Center Volunteer Ambulance, and North Ambulance Service.
Community Impact
The sudden loss of Mackenzie Jo Glaser has left the Belle Plaine community devastated. Described by friends and neighbors as a kind and caring young woman, Glaser’s passing is yet another reminder of the dangers rural intersections can pose, particularly in poor weather conditions.
Local newspapers, including the Montgomery Messenger and The New Prague Times, are expected to publish further details as the official crash report is completed and released.
The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities will continue examining the role of visibility and roadway conditions, along with gathering witness statements, before issuing a final report.
