Victoria Murder Suspect Arrested in Brownsville; 31-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Shooting of Tyler Gamez

VICTORIA, Texas — Authorities have announced the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred outside a Victoria business last weekend.

Charles Lee Brazil, Jr., 31, was taken into custody Thursday in Brownsville by members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force. Brazil had been sought in the shooting death of 23-year-old Tyler Gamez, who was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 30, 2025, outside a business located on Lone Tree Road in Victoria.

Multi-Agency Effort Leads to Arrest

The arrest was the result of a coordinated, multi-agency effort. The Victoria Police Department worked closely with the U.S. Marshals, Houston Police Department, and Brownsville Police Department, with additional intelligence support provided by the FBI’s San Antonio field office.

Officials confirmed that after days of searching and gathering intelligence, Brazil was located in Brownsville and apprehended without incident. He will face charges related to the deadly shooting.

Details of the Shooting

The shooting took place in the early morning hours on Saturday outside a local business. Responding officers found Gamez critically injured, and despite efforts to save his life, he died at the scene.

Investigators have not released details about what led up to the shooting, and it remains unclear whether Brazil and Gamez knew each other prior to the deadly encounter. Authorities have also not disclosed a motive at this time.

The case remains active as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Officials have not yet provided information about the specific charges Brazil will face or when he is expected to appear in court.
