Springdale Woman and Child Killed in Madison County Crash

CLIFTY, Ark. — A tragic crash in Madison County claimed the lives of 36-year-old Elida Prado of Springdale and a young child on Sunday evening, according to a fatal crash summary released by the Arkansas State Police.

Authorities said Prado and the child were passengers in a 2000 Ford vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 45 near Clifty when the crash occurred. The vehicle’s driver reportedly lost control while navigating a curve in the roadway. The car left the pavement, overturned, and came to rest after sustaining significant damage.

The crash was reported at 7:11 p.m., during a period of steady rainfall that had left the road slick and visibility reduced. Investigators noted that wet conditions may have contributed to the driver’s loss of control.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene but were unable to save Prado and the child. Both victims were pronounced dead at the site of the crash. Their bodies were later transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further examination. The name of the child has not been released due to their age.

Arkansas State Police have not yet released details regarding the driver’s identity or condition. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol Division, Troop K, which will determine whether speed, weather, or other factors played a role in the fatal wreck.

The deaths of Prado and the child have devastated the Springdale community, where friends and family are mourning the sudden loss of a mother and a young life taken far too soon. Loved ones describe Prado as a devoted parent and caring individual whose warmth and presence will be deeply missed.

Highway 45 was closed for a period of time Sunday evening as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the scene.

This marks yet another fatal crash on rural Arkansas highways, where officials continue to urge drivers to use caution, especially in poor weather conditions.
