AKRON, Ohio — Akron police have arrested 34-year-old Chavella Dorris following a violent altercation that ended with a stabbing outside a Metro bus on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities reported that officers responded at approximately 3:45 p.m. to the 500 block of East Market Street, across from Summa Health Akron, after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, responding officers found a 23-year-old woman lying on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds. A Summa Health Police Department officer was already at the scene, applying pressure to her injuries to stabilize her until paramedics arrived.
Investigators said the incident began aboard a Metro bus, where Dorris and the victim engaged in a verbal altercation. After both women exited the bus, Dorris allegedly charged at the victim and stabbed her several times with a box cutter, authorities reported.
The victim was immediately transported to Summa Health for medical treatment. Police confirmed that while her injuries were serious, they were not believed to be life-threatening.
Dorris was arrested at the scene by Akron police and charged with felonious assault. She is currently being held at the Summit County Jail pending further court proceedings.
The Akron Police Department said the incident is under active investigation, and authorities are reviewing security footage from the bus and surrounding area to reconstruct the events leading up to the stabbing. Officers are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or has additional information to come forward.
“This was a shocking act of violence in a public area, and we are committed to holding the responsible individual accountable,” Akron Police said in a statement.
Public safety officials reminded residents to remain vigilant in public spaces and report any suspicious or threatening behavior, emphasizing the importance of community awareness in preventing incidents like this.
