One Dead, Another Injured After Car Crashes Into Detroit Restaurant on Gratiot Avenue

DETROIT, September 6, 2025 — A tragic crash on Detroit’s east side claimed the life of Charlene Hardon early Saturday morning and left another individual fighting for survival.

Authorities say the collision happened around 2:30 a.m. on Gratiot Avenue, when a car traveling at high speed lost control and slammed into a restaurant building. The force of the impact caused significant structural damage and drew a swift emergency response from police, fire crews, and paramedics.

The victim, identified as Charlene Hardon, sadly died at the scene. Another occupant of the vehicle was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Their identity has not yet been released.

    Police Investigation Underway

Detroit police confirmed that investigators are working to determine what led to the crash. Speed, impairment, and road conditions are all being considered as possible factors. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is also being reviewed to piece together the final moments before impact.

Traffic along the stretch of Gratiot Avenue where the crash occurred was shut down for several hours overnight while crews secured the site and examined the wreckage. The restaurant building sustained visible damage, though no staff or customers were inside at the time of the crash.

    Community Shock

Residents in the area awoke to the aftermath and expressed deep concern about the dangers of late-night speeding on Gratiot Avenue, a corridor long known for heavy traffic and serious accidents.

“This is heartbreaking,” said one neighbor, who asked not to be named. “Charlene Hardon lost her life in an instant. Something has to be done about the reckless driving we see around here every night.”

    Family Grieves Sudden Loss

Loved ones described Charlene Hardon as a kind and caring woman whose life was cut short far too soon. Many have begun sharing tributes on social media, remembering her spirit and the impact she had on those around her.

    Ongoing Risk on Detroit Roads

The crash adds to a troubling pattern of fatal accidents in Detroit in recent months, with local leaders calling for stronger enforcement of speed limits and greater driver awareness. Officials have urged motorists to slow down, especially during the overnight hours when serious crashes are most common.

As of Saturday morning, police said their investigation remains active. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact the Detroit Police Department’s traffic division.

  • Twin Towns Council Worker Dominique Robateau Shot While on Duty in Santa Elena

Twin Towns Council Worker Dominique Robateau Shot While on Duty in Santa Elena

SANTA ELENA, September 6, 2025 — A community cleanup in Santa Elena ended in tragedy Friday morning when 20-year-old Dominique Robateau, a San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council employee, was shot while carrying out his duties.

Robateau, a young council worker assigned to a municipal cleanup crew, had been clearing an overgrown alley in the Santa Cruz area. Residents had requested the work, citing blocked utility access and safety concerns tied to the neglected lot.

    Shooting During Routine Work

According to initial reports, Robateau and his colleagues began the cleanup around 11:00 a.m. on September 5. As Robateau was chopping grass near a zinc fence, shots rang out from the other side. One bullet struck him, while another grazed the pants of a nearby co-worker.

Authorities later confirmed that Robateau had been cautioned in the past about working in that location, though the reasons for those warnings remain unclear. Investigators are now examining whether the lot may have been linked to criminal activity.

    Possible Criminal Connection

Unofficial accounts suggest the overgrown property might have been used as a stash site for illicit goods, raising suspicions that the cleanup inadvertently disrupted underground operations.

    Mayor Trapp Responds

Mayor Earl Trapp said the work had been scheduled in direct response to resident complaints and stressed that municipal workers often face difficult conditions.

“This incident underscores the dangers our crews encounter every day,” Trapp said. “Our immediate concern is the safety of our staff and the community at large.”

    Investigation Underway

Police and forensic teams quickly secured the scene, but no suspects have yet been identified. Authorities have not announced any arrests.

The shooting left residents of Santa Cruz shaken and angry. Many voiced frustration that individuals working to improve the neighborhood were met with violence.

Community leaders are now pressing for stronger protections for town council employees, including closer coordination between law enforcement and municipal crews when work is carried out in high-risk zones.

    Community Shock and Safety Concerns

The attack on Dominique Robateau has reignited debate over public safety in Belize’s Twin Towns, where residents say unchecked gun violence continues to endanger both workers and ordinary citizens.

Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation intensifies.

Fatal Crash in Burrell Township Leaves One Dead, Several Injured; State Police Investigating

BURRELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A tragic crash Friday evening on State Route 22 claimed the life of a female passenger and left several others injured, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

Authorities said troopers were called to the intersection of Resort Plaza Drive and State Route 22 just before 4 p.m. on September 5 after reports of a two-vehicle collision.

    Sequence of Events

Preliminary investigation revealed that one driver, traveling eastbound on Route 22, allegedly ran a steady red light. At the same time, another vehicle was making a lawful left-hand turn from Resort Plaza Drive onto Route 22 under a green light.

The eastbound driver reportedly attempted to swerve and avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The impact was severe.

    • The first vehicle overturned and skidded across the roadway before coming to rest on its driver’s side, facing south on Route 22.
    • The second vehicle spun 180 degrees before stopping in the intersection.

    Casualties and Injuries

The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light sustained only minor injuries. However, the occupants of the struck vehicle suffered far more serious consequences:

    • The driver was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.
    • One passenger was also transported to Pittsburgh by ambulance.
    • A second passenger was taken to a hospital in Indiana County.
    • Tragically, a female passenger in the struck vehicle later died of her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released pending family notification.

    Road Closures and Investigation

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 22 were closed for approximately three hours as police conducted crash reconstruction and cleared the roadway. Traffic was rerouted during the closure, creating significant delays in the area.

The Pennsylvania State Police have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the crash, including whether speed, distraction, or impairment were contributing factors. Charges may be considered depending on the outcome of the inquiry.

    Community Response

The fatal crash has shaken Burrell Township residents, as Route 22 has long been considered a dangerous stretch of road due to its heavy traffic and history of serious accidents.

Officials emphasized the importance of obeying traffic signals and remaining alert while driving. “This tragedy underscores how quickly lives can be changed when traffic laws are ignored,” a state police spokesperson said.

The investigation remains active, and additional details — including the identity of the deceased victim — will be released as they become available.

Lapwai Shooting Leaves One Woman Dead, Man Injured; Suspect in Custody

LAPWAI, Idaho — A woman is dead and a man remains hospitalized after a shooting Friday evening in Lapwai, according to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office. The incident has led to the arrest of 30-year-old Christian Forslof, who is facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Deputies say the shooting was reported at approximately 5:24 p.m. on September 5 in the 1100 block of Thunder Hill Road, where a caller alleged that two individuals—a man and a woman—had been on the property and may have broken into a shed. While officers were en route, the caller informed dispatchers that her fiancé had shot both individuals.

A Nez Perce Tribal Police officer was first to arrive on scene and immediately detained Forslof without incident. Shortly afterward, deputies and emergency medics discovered the victims suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male victim was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. His current condition has not been released. The identities of both victims are being withheld pending notification of their families.

    What Led to the Shooting

Investigators said Forslof believed the pair had unlawfully entered a shed on his property. After the individuals left, he allegedly followed them approximately a quarter-mile away from his residence, where he confronted them and attempted to detain them at gunpoint.

Authorities confirmed that neither victim was armed at the time of the confrontation. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the altercation escalated into a verbal dispute, during which Forslof fired multiple shots after the female victim allegedly pointed her finger at him and advanced.

    Suspect in Custody

Forslof was arrested at the scene and later booked into the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center. He is being held on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

    Ongoing Investigation

The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office and Nez Perce Tribal Police continue to investigate the case. Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the fatal encounter and determine whether additional charges may be filed.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “We encourage anyone who may have information relevant to this case to come forward.”
