FORT DODGE, IA — Authorities have released the identity of the victim in the September 2, 2025, homicide as 45-year-old Justo Cruz Calindo, a resident of Fort Dodge. Officials confirmed Thursday that investigators were able to make contact with Calindo’s family in recent days and formally notify them of his tragic death.
The case began in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 2, when the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a 911 call reporting a gunshot in the area of 524 N. 28th Street. Officers from the Fort Dodge Police Department responded at approximately 1:04 a.m. and discovered an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound outside an apartment building. Despite emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the discovery, police withheld the victim’s identity until his family could be properly notified. That process has now been completed, and officials have identified the victim as Calindo.
Arrest in the Case
The investigation moved quickly in the hours following the homicide. Detectives with the Fort Dodge Police Department, in collaboration with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations and the Webster County Attorney’s Office, pursued numerous leads that led to the arrest of 38-year-old Rolman H. Recinos Gonzales of Fort Dodge.
Recinos Gonzales faces multiple charges, including:
- Murder in the First Degree (Class A Felony)
- Trafficking in Stolen Weapons (Class D Felony)
- Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons (Serious Misdemeanor)
He remains held at the Webster County Jail. Law enforcement officials stressed that Recinos Gonzales is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

While the arrest marks a major development, investigators continue to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and piece together the full circumstances surrounding Calindo’s death. Detectives are working to determine the motive and whether additional individuals may have been involved.
