WINCHESTER, Mass. — A tragic hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a bicyclist Saturday afternoon, leaving police searching for the driver responsible.
According to Winchester police, officers were called to the area of North Main Street around 4:30 p.m. after reports of an injured bicyclist. When first responders arrived, they found the man lying unresponsive on the roadway. Emergency crews immediately began life-saving measures, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, the man later died from his injuries.
As of Sunday evening, authorities had not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators say they are working to gather additional information about the circumstances of the crash and the driver who fled the scene.
The roadway in the area was temporarily closed on Saturday as detectives collected evidence and canvassed for potential witnesses. Officers are also reviewing nearby surveillance cameras in hopes of identifying the vehicle involved.
The death has shaken the Winchester community, with many residents expressing frustration and grief over yet another case of reckless driving. Local cycling advocates have also spoken out, highlighting the dangers bicyclists face on busy streets and renewing calls for improved safety measures.
Police stressed that leaving the scene of a crash is a serious crime and vowed to pursue all leads to hold the driver accountable. “We are urging anyone who saw anything, no matter how small it may seem, to please come forward,” an official with the department said.
