Fatal Pedestrian Crash Shuts Down Cobb Parkway in Kennesaw

COBB COUNTY, Ga – A tragic scene unfolded early Monday morning in Cobb County after a pedestrian was struck and killed along Cobb Parkway. Authorities say the incident happened just after 5 a.m. near the intersection of Crater Lake Drive in Kennesaw.

According to Cobb County Police, officers were dispatched following reports of a person hit by a vehicle. When first responders arrived, they confirmed that the pedestrian had died at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

What makes the case particularly troubling, investigators said, is that no vehicle was found at the scene. Authorities have not confirmed whether the driver fled or if the pedestrian may have been struck under other circumstances. Police have not released any suspect or vehicle descriptions at this time.

The Cobb County Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is leading the investigation. Kennesaw Police Department units also responded and assisted in securing the scene, diverting traffic while evidence was collected.

As a result of the crash investigation, Cobb Parkway southbound has been shut down between Old Highway 41 and Barrett Parkway. Traffic is being redirected onto Old Highway 41, creating heavy delays for commuters in the area. County officials estimate the roadway will remain closed for several hours.

Local residents expressed frustration and concern about safety along the busy stretch of highway, which is known for heavy traffic during rush hour. Pedestrian safety advocates note that accidents like these highlight the ongoing risks faced by those walking near major corridors in Cobb County.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about a possible vehicle involved to contact Cobb County Police.

This is an active and developing story. Updates will be provided as soon as more details, including the identity of the victim and circumstances surrounding the crash, are released.

MILWAUKEE: Suspect Identified in Crash That Took Lives of 2 Marquette Students

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A devastating crash in Milwaukee on Sept. 5 has left the Marquette University community mourning the loss of two of its own. Authorities have identified the suspect as 41-year-old Amandria Brunner, who was arrested at the scene on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

The crash claimed the lives of Scott Michaud, 19, and Noah Snyder, 20, both promising student-athletes and members of the Marquette men’s lacrosse team. The two young men, remembered as dedicated teammates and loyal friends, were killed instantly in the violent collision.

According to police, the crash occurred late Friday night when Brunner, allegedly under the influence, struck the vehicle carrying the group of students. In addition to Michaud and Snyder, four other Marquette students were injured—three of them also lacrosse players. The injured students were rushed to local hospitals with varying degrees of injuries. Officials say all are expected to survive, though their recoveries may be long.

The university issued a statement expressing grief and solidarity:

“Scott and Noah were not only talented athletes but cherished members of our Marquette family. Their passion for the game and their kindness toward others left an indelible mark on their teammates, coaches, and professors. Our deepest prayers are with their families and with the students who are recovering.”

Teammates and friends have already begun organizing vigils and memorials to honor the lives of Michaud and Snyder, both of whom were remembered as hardworking players with bright futures ahead—on and off the field.

Brunner, meanwhile, remains in custody as prosecutors prepare formal charges. The case has reignited anger and frustration over the dangers of impaired driving, particularly when it robs young people of their futures.

As the investigation continues, the Marquette community stands united in grief, drawing strength from one another while honoring the memories of Scott Michaud and Noah Snyder—two lives taken far too soon.

  • CPSO Arrests Woman After Moss Bluff Traffic Fatality

CPSO Arrests Woman After Moss Bluff Traffic Fatality

LAKE CHARLES, La. — A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Moss Bluff on Saturday night has left 19-year-old Gideon M. Capitano dead and 24-year-old Shelby T. Wood facing serious charges, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO).

At approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies responded to the intersection of North Perkins Ferry Road and Poeyfarre Drive, where an initial collision involving three vehicles had taken place. Investigators determined that a Chevy pickup was stopped northbound, waiting to turn left onto Poeyfarre Drive, when a Toyota SUV attempted to pass in a no-passing zone. The Toyota struck a Ford pickup head-on, which was traveling southbound on North Perkins Ferry Road.

In the aftermath of that crash, drivers, passengers, and even passing motorists stopped to render aid. While many were outside their vehicles, a second collision occurred. Another Chevy pickup traveling southbound slammed into the rear of the Ford involved in the first crash.

Authorities say all bystanders managed to move to safety except for the driver of the Ford pickup, Gideon Capitano. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning. The driver of the Toyota SUV was also taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

During the investigation, deputies observed signs of impairment in the driver of the Chevy pickup involved in the second crash. She was identified as Shelby T. Wood. According to CPSO, Wood performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. A blood sample was taken, and toxicology results are pending.

Wood was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on multiple charges, including:

    • DWI (1st offense)
    • Vehicular homicide
    • Careless operation
    • Expired registration

Her bond has not yet been set.

As required by state law, toxicology tests were conducted on the other drivers involved in the crashes. The investigation remains active.

CPSO emphasized that an arrest is not proof of guilt but an indication that probable cause exists. Wood, like any defendant, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The tragic chain of events has left the Moss Bluff community mourning the loss of Gideon Capitano, remembered as a young man whose life was cut short far too soon.

  • A Domestic Violence Survivor and Her Mother Fatally Shot During Custody Exchange

A Domestic Violence Survivor and Her Mother Fatally Shot During Custody Exchange

AUGUSTA, Ga. — A tragedy that has shaken the Augusta community unfolded Sunday evening when Melissa Cui Domingo, 37, and her mother, Elizabeth Cui Domingo, 74, were fatally shot in the parking lot of Best Buy off Walton Way Extension. Authorities have identified the alleged shooter as Hajir Talebzadeh, 37, Melissa’s ex-husband — the same man she had previously shot in self-defense in 2021 during what courts recognized as years of ongoing domestic abuse.

The shooting, described by investigators as a domestic-related double homicide, occurred around 6:12 p.m. during a scheduled custody exchange involving the couple’s 5-year-old son, who was present at the scene. Although physically unharmed, the child witnessed the attack and is now in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) arrived within minutes of the first emergency calls, finding Melissa and Elizabeth Domingo suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, both women were pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m. by Deputy Coroner John Rutland.

Talebzadeh was also located on the scene with an injury of unspecified severity. He was transported to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center, where officials say he is in stable condition. Investigators have since obtained murder warrants, and he will be transferred to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center once medically cleared.

    A Violent History Resurfaces

The killings come less than a month after Melissa Domingo was legally vindicated for defending herself against Talebzadeh in 2021. On August 19, 2025, Superior Court Judge Jesse Stone dismissed all charges against her, ruling that she had acted in lawful self-defense when she shot her then-husband multiple times during a violent confrontation at their home.

At that hearing, Judge Stone accepted expert testimony that Melissa suffered from Battered Person Syndrome, PTSD, panic disorder, and Stockholm Syndrome after enduring years of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Family members also testified about Talebzadeh’s violent and controlling behavior, warning that they feared for Melissa’s life.

Investigators at the time noted the Domingo residence contained unsecured, loaded firearms and confirmed that Talebzadeh was armed during the confrontation. Though he sustained multiple gunshot wounds in 2021, he survived, only to now be accused of killing Melissa and her mother.

Judge Stone applied Georgia’s “transferred justification” doctrine, ruling that even if others were unintentionally endangered during Melissa’s act of self-defense, the law shielded her actions as justified.

    Law Enforcement Response

In the aftermath of Sunday’s shooting, RCSO emphasized that this was an isolated, domestic incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the broader community.

“This was a senseless tragedy that unfolded in front of a child,” said Chief of Staff Lewis Blanchard of the Sheriff’s Office. “Our hearts go out to everyone impacted, especially the child who will now grow up without both parents.”

Sheriff Gino Brantley also issued a statement, underscoring the devastating impact of domestic violence:

“No child should ever have to experience such trauma. As a community, we must come together to support him and others who are affected. Violence is never the answer—it only leaves behind grief, pain, and broken families.”

The Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit provided aerial support during the emergency response, using thermal imaging to secure the area. Multiple local and state agencies also assisted.

    A Community in Mourning

The deaths of Melissa and Elizabeth Domingo have left family, friends, and advocates reeling. Melissa’s story had recently become a symbol of resilience for survivors of domestic violence after the court formally acknowledged her history of abuse. Now, her killing by the very man she once fought to escape highlights the ongoing dangers survivors face even after securing legal protection.

Advocates say the case underscores the urgent need for stronger safeguards during custody exchanges and for more comprehensive protections for survivors who remain vulnerable to their abusers.

As the investigation continues, Talebzadeh faces multiple counts of murder. The community is left grappling with grief and searching for ways to support a young child whose life has been permanently altered by violence.
