DAYTON — A violent family dispute in Dayton Friday night left one person hospitalized and another behind bars, according to Dayton Police.
Authorities said officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence shortly after 9 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. Police have not released details about the extent of the injuries but confirmed the victim is expected to survive.
Dayton Police Sergeant Luckoski said the shooting stemmed from an argument between family members that escalated into violence. Officers quickly secured the scene and detained the suspected shooter, who was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect’s identity has not yet been made public, and formal charges are pending.
Investigators remained on the scene late into the night, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Police have not disclosed what the argument was about or whether alcohol, drugs, or prior disputes may have played a role in the confrontation.
Neighbors reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area, with multiple patrol cars and crime scene tape surrounding the home. Some said they heard shouting before the gunfire erupted.
Authorities stressed that the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. “This was a family situation that unfortunately turned violent,” Sgt. Luckoski said. “We want to assure the community that we have the suspect in custody, and the investigation is moving forward.”
The names of the individuals involved have not been released as police continue to notify family members and prepare charges.
The Dayton Police Department said the investigation remains active. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact their detectives or submit anonymous tips through Miami Valley Crime Stoppers.
