Fatal Rollover Crash Claims Life of Schertz Man on I-35 in New Braunfels

New Braunfels, TX – A tragic rollover crash on Interstate 35 North claimed the life of a 34-year-old man from Schertz on Tuesday afternoon, September 2, 2025, after authorities say he was ejected from his vehicle during a high-speed collision.

The Crash

According to the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD), officers and New Braunfels Fire Department crews were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. to the 2900 block of I-35 North, in the northbound main lanes, following reports of a rollover accident.

Upon arrival, first responders located a silver Ford Fusion that had rolled over multiple times. The driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was found unresponsive on the roadway. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by officers and paramedics, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities later confirmed that next of kin has been notified.

Investigation Findings

The NBPD Traffic Unit’s preliminary investigation determined that the Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed and was weaving through traffic before it sideswiped a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The impact caused the driver of the Fusion to overcorrect, leading to the violent rollover.

Police noted that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt, which directly contributed to his ejection from the vehicle. “Seatbelts save lives,” NBPD officials emphasized in a statement. “This is another tragic example of how the simple act of buckling up could have made a difference.”

Road Closures and Response

The entire northbound side of I-35 in the affected area was shut down for approximately 3½ hours as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and the NBPD Traffic Unit conducted a full accident reconstruction. The closure caused significant traffic delays for drivers heading northbound through New Braunfels during the afternoon rush.

No other injuries were reported. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not harmed, and authorities say no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the crash.

Community Impact

The fatal wreck has once again highlighted ongoing concerns about speeding and reckless driving along the busy I-35 corridor, which sees thousands of vehicles pass through New Braunfels daily.

Local residents, many of whom witnessed the aftermath, expressed sadness over the tragedy. “You see accidents on this stretch of I-35 all the time, but this one really shook people,” said one driver who was stuck in the resulting traffic. “It’s heartbreaking to know someone lost their life.”

Safety Reminder

Authorities are urging drivers to obey posted speed limits, avoid aggressive lane changes, and always wear a seatbelt. The NBPD stressed that the investigation remains ongoing, but the preliminary findings strongly point to excessive speed and failure to buckle up as the key factors in the fatal crash.

“This was a preventable tragedy,” police said. “We hope this serves as a reminder for everyone traveling on our roads to make safe choices.”
