Homicide Investigation Underway in Wellford After Deadly Shooting

Wellford, S.C. – September 4, 2025 -Authorities in Spartanburg County are investigating a homicide after a deadly shooting in the Wellford community Wednesday night that left 32-year-old Dyshawn Lamar Moore dead and prompted a manhunt for the suspect, 29-year-old Jaquavias Raeshun Moses, who is now wanted on a murder charge.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Tanglewood Road shortly before 10 p.m. following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene and discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office later confirmed that the victim, Moore, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 9:45 p.m.

Investigators have since identified Moses as the suspect in connection with the killing. He remains at large.

Authorities describe Moses as armed and dangerous, warning the public not to approach him if spotted. Instead, anyone with information about his location is urged to contact the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” Sheriff’s officials said in a statement. “We are working diligently to locate Moses and bring him into custody. Our priority is ensuring justice for the victim and safety for the community.”

The shooting has left residents of the Wellford area shaken. Neighbors described hearing gunfire echo through the normally quiet community Wednesday night, followed by the sound of sirens as deputies and emergency responders rushed to the scene.

Family and friends of Dyshawn Moore are mourning his loss, remembering him as a loyal friend and loving family member. Tributes began appearing on social media Thursday morning under the hashtag #DyshawnMoore, with many calling for justice and peace in the wake of the tragedy.

Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to intensify their search for Moses, with his name and photo being circulated widely. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that harboring or assisting the suspect could lead to criminal charges.
