HOPEWELL MURDER UPDATE: Husband Arrested in Fatal Domestic Incident on South Mesa Drive

HOPEWELL, Va. — A domestic disturbance call in Hopewell on Wednesday evening has ended in tragedy, leaving 46-year-old Medea Masterson dead and her husband facing murder charges.

According to the Hopewell Police Department, telecommunications dispatchers received a report at approximately 8:08 p.m. on September 10, 2025, regarding an active disturbance in the 300 block of South Mesa Drive. Officers responded within minutes and discovered an adult female suffering from severe injuries. Despite efforts from first responders, the victim, identified as Masterson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, 42-year-old Larry Masterson of Hopewell, was immediately taken into custody at the residence without further incident. He has since been charged with Second-Degree Murder and transported to Riverside Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.

The Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. While officials have not yet released details regarding what may have led to the fatal incident, detectives are actively gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses.

“Domestic violence cases are among the most tragic calls our officers respond to, and this one has left a family and community grieving,” police said in a statement.
