JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — September 6, 2025 — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson Township, has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the death of 28-year-old Toraya Reid, also of Jackson Township.
The incident unfolded on the morning of September 6, 2025, when at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and an unresponsive female lying in the roadway at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road.
Responding officers discovered a woman near the exit of the complex who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, the victim, later identified as Ms. Reid, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As officers secured the area, additional units spotted a male subject — later identified as Green — running along North New Prospect Road. Green was apprehended without incident and transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters for questioning.
A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Green, who had been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid, was responsible for her death. Based on the evidence, Green was formally charged with the offenses and taken to the Ocean County Jail, where he is currently lodged pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer praised the quick and coordinated response by multiple agencies. “I commend the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their collaborative efforts which led to Green’s swift apprehension,” Billhimer said.
Authorities emphasized that while charges have been filed, Green is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. “The charges referenced above are merely accusations,” the Prosecutor’s Office reminded the public, citing R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6).
The case has left the Jackson Township community shaken, with residents at the Paragon Apartment Complex expressing shock at the violence that erupted in their neighborhood on a Saturday morning. Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the case moves forward.
