Kansas City, Kansas — Deadly Shooting Outside Bank Involving Security Guard Under Investigation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A tragic incident unfolded Thursday afternoon in Kansas City, Kansas, leaving one man dead after a shooting outside a local bank. Authorities say the incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. near North 8th Street and State Avenue, drawing a large police response to the area.

According to the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD), officers were dispatched following reports of an armed disturbance at the bank. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had been shot outside the building. Emergency medical crews rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries.

KCKPD has confirmed that the individual who fired the shots was a security guard employed at the bank. Investigators say the guard remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with authorities as they work to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly encounter. At this time, police have not disclosed what sparked the confrontation or whether the victim was armed.

A spokesperson for KCKPD emphasized that the incident was isolated and that no other individuals were involved, reassuring the public that there is no ongoing threat to community safety. Detectives spent much of the afternoon canvassing the area, speaking with witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage in order to piece together the sequence of events.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released pending notification of family members. The identity of the security guard also remains undisclosed as the investigation continues.
