JACKSON, Miss – The Jackson Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that unfolded earlier today, September 7, in the capital city.

Authorities say officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Woodbine Street after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite immediate efforts to save him, officials confirmed that the victim died from his injuries at the scene.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones later confirmed the fatality, noting that investigators are actively working to determine what led to the shooting. As of now, the identity of the deceased male has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The area surrounding Woodbine Street has been blocked off as police and crime scene units process evidence, interview potential witnesses, and canvass the neighborhood for surveillance footage that may provide leads. At this stage, authorities have not released details regarding a suspect, motive, or whether the shooting was targeted or random. The Jackson Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward and assist investigators in piecing together the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
