TAMPA, Fla. — A violent night unfolded in Tampa early Thursday morning when gunfire erupted at an apartment complex, ultimately leaving six people wounded and prompting an urgent investigation by the Tampa Police Department.
The first round of calls came in just before 1 a.m., when officers were dispatched to the Crown Pointe Apartments, located in the 6000 block of Woodville Street. Upon arrival, police found three people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two of those victims were rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, while a third victim was transported in critical condition, authorities confirmed.
Roughly 30 minutes later, officers were called again—this time to the intersection of West Platt Street and South Willow Avenue. At that location, two additional victims reported they had also been shot at the Crown Pointe Apartments and were en route to a hospital. Both individuals were transported and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A sixth victim later arrived separately at a local hospital with injuries from the same incident. Their condition was also described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators say all six victims were outside at the time of the shooting. Detectives are working to identify a suspect, establish the sequence of events, and determine what sparked the violence. At this stage, police have not released any details regarding possible motives, nor have they confirmed whether the victims were specifically targeted.
The Crown Pointe Apartments and surrounding areas remained active crime scenes for several hours overnight, with officers collecting shell casings, canvassing for witnesses, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, and detectives are following multiple leads. Tampa Police are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 813-231-6130. Those wishing to remain anonymous can also submit tips through Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay.
“We know six people were hurt, and that’s six families and a community impacted by this senseless violence,” a Tampa Police spokesperson said. “We are committed to finding out who is responsible and bringing them to justice.”
The shootings have left residents of the Crown Pointe Apartments shaken, as many awoke to flashing lights and police activity in their neighborhood. Community leaders are calling for calm while investigators continue to piece together what happened.
Police confirmed more updates will be released as soon as additional information is available.
