Deacon Burwell touched countless lives through his steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and willingness to serve others. He lived with humility and purpose, demonstrating the true essence of discipleship and long-suffering. To know him was to witness a life anchored in Christ—his words were filled with wisdom, his actions guided by compassion, and his heart always open to those in need.

His life’s journey serves as a reminder that we are but travelers here on earth, and as scripture tells us, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). While we mourn his departure, we also rejoice in the assurance that he has received his eternal reward. We find comfort in the Word, for “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15).

Deacon Burwell’s presence will be greatly missed—by his family, who knew him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; by his church, who cherished him as a spiritual pillar; and by his community, who respected him as a man of faith and integrity. His legacy will continue to inspire those who remain, urging us to walk closer with Christ and to live lives of service and love.

VICTORIA, Texas — Authorities have announced the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred outside a Victoria business last weekend.

Charles Lee Brazil, Jr., 31, was taken into custody Thursday in Brownsville by members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force. Brazil had been sought in the shooting death of 23-year-old Tyler Gamez, who was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 30, 2025, outside a business located on Lone Tree Road in Victoria.

Multi-Agency Effort Leads to Arrest

The arrest was the result of a coordinated, multi-agency effort. The Victoria Police Department worked closely with the U.S. Marshals, Houston Police Department, and Brownsville Police Department, with additional intelligence support provided by the FBI’s San Antonio field office.

In 1994, Estevens was appointed Chief of Police, a role in which he proudly served until his retirement in 1999. His leadership helped guide the department through years of growth and transition, leaving behind a foundation of strong values and professionalism that continues to this day.

Continued Service Beyond Retirement

After retiring from the Thibodaux Police Department, Chief Estevens carried his commitment to public service into his later years. Relocating to Mountain City, Tennessee, he remained active in his community and was elected Constable, once again taking on the responsibility of serving and protecting others. WEBSTER PARISH, La. — A Webster Parish family and community are mourning the tragic loss of a young man after an apparent accidental shooting claimed his life on Wednesday evening. Sheriff Jason Parker confirmed that 23-year-old Dalton Taylor died as a result of an accidental gunshot wound at his home on Dorcheat Road, near the Evergreen community.

According to Parker, deputies were dispatched around 5:00 p.m. to Minden Medical Center after reports came in of a victim arriving with a gunshot wound. Taylor had been rushed to the hospital by private vehicle, where emergency room staff immediately worked to save his life. Despite their efforts, Taylor succumbed to his injury.
