Greetings, family and friends. It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Deacon Robert Burwell. Deacon Burwell was more than just a family man; he was a faithful servant, a devoted member of the WCOC family, and a shining example of what it means to walk in God’s love and grace.
Deacon Burwell touched countless lives through his steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and willingness to serve others. He lived with humility and purpose, demonstrating the true essence of discipleship and long-suffering. To know him was to witness a life anchored in Christ—his words were filled with wisdom, his actions guided by compassion, and his heart always open to those in need.
His life’s journey serves as a reminder that we are but travelers here on earth, and as scripture tells us, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). While we mourn his departure, we also rejoice in the assurance that he has received his eternal reward. We find comfort in the Word, for “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15).
Deacon Burwell’s presence will be greatly missed—by his family, who knew him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; by his church, who cherished him as a spiritual pillar; and by his community, who respected him as a man of faith and integrity. His legacy will continue to inspire those who remain, urging us to walk closer with Christ and to live lives of service and love.
We ask that you keep the Burwell family, our Pastor and First Lady, and our entire church family in your prayers during this time of sorrow. Your love, support, and prayers will be a source of strength as we move forward in faith.
The final arrangements for Deacon Burwell’s homegoing celebration will be shared below, as we come together to honor his life and give thanks for the gift of his time among us.
May God bless you all, and may His peace, which surpasses all understanding, be with each of us as we remember the life and legacy of our dear Deacon Robert Burwell.
