  • Ginnie Hislop obituary Fulfills 84-Year Journey to Earn Her Master’s Degree

Ginnie Hislop obituary Fulfills 84-Year Journey to Earn Her Master’s Degree

Some stories inspire us not because of how quickly they unfold, but because of the persistence and faith that carry them to completion. Such is the story of Ginnie Hislop, who, in 2024, received a standing ovation as she proudly accepted her master’s degree—eighty-four years after she had first completed her coursework.

Back in 1941, all that stood between Ginnie and her degree was the submission of her thesis. But history had other plans. Her then-boyfriend, George, was suddenly called to serve during World War II. In a whirlwind of love and urgency, the two married and set off together for his army outpost. Ginnie’s nearly finished degree was left behind—her dreams of graduation paused indefinitely.

Yet, decades later, in a moment both triumphant and deeply moving, Ginnie finally completed what she had started. Her story reminds us that while life may interrupt our plans, perseverance and faith can bring them to fulfillment—even after many years.

Her journey echoes the story of Ezra in Scripture. Ezra, a devoted student of God’s law, also had to wait decades before fulfilling his calling. Exiled in Babylon, he longed to return to Jerusalem. Finally, under the gracious hand of God, Ezra was able to lead others back, reforming worship and restoring faith among the people. “Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees” (Ezra 7:10). His patient obedience bore fruit in God’s perfect timing.

Ginnie’s life mirrored this truth: that waiting does not mean forgetting, and delay does not mean defeat. Just as Ezra opened the book of the Law and the people bowed in reverence (Nehemiah 8:5-6), Ginnie’s moment of recognition became a testament to perseverance, dedication, and God’s sustaining grace.

Her story teaches us that it is never too late to finish the work God has placed before us. With faith and resilience, we can trust Him to bring all things to completion in His perfect time.

As we remember Ginnie Hislop, we honor not only her remarkable achievement but also her unwavering spirit. Her life is a reminder to all of us to remain faithful, persistent, and hopeful, even when the finish line seems far away.

    Prayer:
Dear God, please help me finish well what You’ve called me to do. Give me the patience to wait, the strength to persist, and the faith to trust in Your timing. Amen.

  • Tulsa Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash on South Canton Avenue

Tulsa Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash on South Canton Avenue

Tulsa, Oklahoma — September 3, 2025 | A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Ashton Meyer Wednesday evening after a fiery collision involving two other vehicles.

Tulsa Police say officers were dispatched at approximately 4:50 p.m. to the 7100 block of South Canton Avenue following multiple emergency calls about a severe accident. Callers reported that a motorcycle was on fire and that the rider had been pinned beneath a vehicle.

    Reckless Driving Before the Crash

According to witness accounts, Meyer had been traveling along 71st Street at high speeds prior to the collision. Witnesses said he was driving recklessly, weaving between lanes of traffic, performing wheelies, and exceeding the speed limit.

Moments before the crash, Meyer attempted to avoid a vehicle turning in front of him by laying his motorcycle down on its side. Despite the evasive maneuver, the motorcycle struck one of the vehicles, causing the gas tank to rupture and ignite.

The force of the impact ejected Meyer from the motorcycle, and he was thrown beneath another vehicle.

    Emergency Response and Outcome

First responders arrived within minutes, finding the motorcycle ablaze and Meyer critically injured. Fire crews extinguished the flames while paramedics worked to stabilize him, but despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The two drivers of the vehicles involved sustained no serious injuries, police confirmed.

    Investigation Ongoing

Tulsa Police’s Advanced Traffic Investigators are continuing to examine the crash. At this stage, authorities say that no charges are expected, citing preliminary evidence that reckless driving and excessive speed were significant contributing factors.

    Community Reminder

Police used the incident to urge motorcycle riders and drivers alike to exercise caution on city roads.

“This tragic loss underscores the dangers of reckless riding,” a Tulsa Police spokesperson said. “Motorcycles offer very little protection in the event of a crash, and risky maneuvers can quickly turn fatal.”

  • Four Masked Gunmen Storm Home, Kill Two Men in Johnson Alley Shooting

Four Masked Gunmen Storm Home, Kill Two Men in Johnson Alley Shooting

Police are investigating a harrowing and brazen act of violence that claimed the lives of two men late last night in the capital. The shocking incident, which unfolded at a residence on Johnson Alley off Wulff Road, has left the surrounding community rattled and authorities intensifying efforts to track down those responsible.

According to reports, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, police were alerted to gunfire through ShotSpotter technology, which detects and pinpoints the sound of gunshots. Officers responded quickly to the scene and were directed to a home where they discovered two men lying unresponsive inside. Emergency Medical Services were called and, upon arrival, confirmed that both men—aged 41 and 32—had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations revealed that the victims were inside the residence when four masked men, armed with firearms, forcibly entered. Without warning, the assailants opened fire, striking both men several times. The suspects then fled the area in a black Nissan Juke, heading in an unknown direction. Their identities remain unknown, and police have yet to release any details regarding possible motives behind the deadly attack.

The brutal nature of the incident underscores a growing concern over gun violence and home invasions in the community. The calculated execution—carried out by four armed and masked individuals—suggests a targeted attack rather than a random act. For now, the community remains shaken, mourning the sudden loss of two lives cut short in a manner that speaks to the frightening reality of violent crime. The scene on Johnson Alley serves as yet another grim reminder of the urgency of tackling gun violence and the dangers posed when weapons fall into the wrong hands.

  • Court Records: Former Letcher County Sheriff Feared for Family’s Safety Before Courthouse Shooting of Judge

Court Records: Former Letcher County Sheriff Feared for Family’s Safety Before Courthouse Shooting of Judge

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. — Newly released court documents are shedding light on the state of mind of former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines in the hours leading up to the fatal courthouse shooting of Judge Kevin Mullins last September.

    Fear for His Family

Witness statements reveal that Stines appeared increasingly paranoid and convinced that his family was under threat. Records show he went home, put on a bulletproof vest, and insisted others call to confirm his daughter’s safety.

Staff members described Stines as “distraught” and noted that he even made phone calls to long-deceased relatives—behavior prosecutors now cite as evidence of his declining mental state.

Security footage reviewed by investigators shows Stines using both his own phone and Judge Mullins’ phone to try reaching his daughter shortly before standing up inside the courtroom and opening fire.

    Civil Case Pressure

Attorneys for Stines argue that the shooting was fueled by extreme psychological stress tied to ongoing civil litigation involving deputies and allegations of a sex-for-favors scheme inside the courthouse.

In a recent filing, defense attorney Jeremey Bartley wrote that the intense scrutiny surrounding the courthouse scandal caused Stines to break down mentally. He cited testimony from Daniel Dotson, a former colleague, who allegedly told investigators that he had warned Mullins: “Mickey was losing it and couldn’t take this kind of pressure.”

One sheriff’s office employee also reported that Stines claimed Dotson demanded money and instructed him to kill himself—or else his wife and daughter would be killed.

    The Shooting and Arrest

On the day of the shooting, Stines opened fire during court proceedings, fatally striking Judge Mullins. Officers quickly subdued and arrested him.

Body camera footage taken after the arrest shows Stines trembling and begging officers not to release him, saying: “I leave this building, I won’t take another breath.”

Medical reports later documented signs of active psychosis, yet detectives testified before a grand jury that they believed Stines was legally sane at the time of the shooting.

    Judge Mullins and Misconduct Allegations

Despite defense efforts to tie the tragedy to courthouse misconduct, Judge Mullins was never criminally charged in connection with the alleged sex-for-favors scandal. Prosecutors maintain that Stines’ claims are unsubstantiated and should not overshadow the central fact that he intentionally carried out a deadly attack on a sitting judge.

    Current Status of the Case

Stines has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and murder of a public official. His defense team continues to seek dismissal of the indictment, arguing that his mental state and the immense pressure he faced should be taken into account.

For now, Stines remains in custody as his legal battle continues to unfold. The case has drawn widespread attention, not only for its violent outcome but also for its entanglement with broader allegations of courthouse misconduct, corruption, and a sheriff’s mental unraveling under pressure.
