It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Police Chief Keith Estevens, a dedicated law enforcement officer, public servant, and community leader whose legacy of service touched countless lives.
A Distinguished Career in Law Enforcement
Chief Estevens began his law enforcement career with the Thibodaux Police Department in 1970. Starting as a patrol officer, he quickly established himself as a man of integrity, professionalism, and compassion. His commitment to serving and protecting the people of Thibodaux led him through the ranks, earning the respect of both his peers and the community.
In 1994, Estevens was appointed Chief of Police, a role in which he proudly served until his retirement in 1999. During his tenure, he emphasized community policing, officer training, and building trust between law enforcement and citizens. His leadership helped guide the department through years of growth and transition, leaving behind a foundation of strong values and professionalism that continues to this day.
Continued Service Beyond Retirement
After retiring from the Thibodaux Police Department, Chief Estevens carried his commitment to public service into his later years. Relocating to Mountain City, Tennessee, he remained active in his community and was elected Constable, once again taking on the responsibility of serving and protecting others. His career reflected a lifelong dedication to duty, extending well beyond his years in uniform.
Honoring a Legacy of Dedication
On behalf of the City of Thibodaux Municipal Government and the Thibodaux Police Department, Mayor Kevin Clement and Chief Bryan Zeringue expressed their gratitude for Chief Estevens’ nearly three decades of service to the city.
“Chief Estevens gave 29 years of his life to serving Thibodaux with honor,” Mayor Clement shared. “His legacy will always be remembered here.” Chief Zeringue added, “He not only led this department, but he shaped the values and standards we still uphold today. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
A Call for Prayers and Support
Chief Estevens will be remembered not only as a dedicated law enforcement leader but also as a man of principle, faith, and compassion who truly cared for the communities he served. His passing marks the end of an era for Thibodaux, but his legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
The City of Thibodaux asks that residents keep Chief Estevens’ family and friends in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
