South Central Calhoun High School Mourns Sophomore Cadyn Ogden After Fatal Car Accident

ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa — The South Central Calhoun Community School District is mourning the loss of one of its own after confirming the tragic death of Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore at South Central Calhoun High School, following a fatal car accident.

District officials shared the heartbreaking news with students, staff, and families earlier this week, describing Cadyn as a bright young student whose presence left a meaningful impact on the school community.

“Our hearts are broken by the loss of Cadyn,” the district said in a statement. “He was a valued member of our student body, a kind friend, and a beloved classmate. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. This is an unimaginable loss, and we grieve together as a school community.”

According to authorities, the accident occurred in Calhoun County, though details about the crash are still under investigation. Emergency personnel responded quickly, but despite their efforts, Cadyn tragically did not survive.

In the wake of the tragedy, the school district has activated crisis support services for students and staff. Counselors and grief specialists are available throughout the week to provide comfort and help young people process the sudden loss of their classmate.

Community members have already begun rallying around the Ogden family, with local churches, neighbors, and classmates offering messages of support and sympathy. Vigils and memorials are being discussed to honor Cadyn’s memory, and many are turning to social media to share stories and photos that reflect his kindness, humor, and character.

Parents and guardians are being encouraged to talk openly with their children about grief and loss, and the district is providing resources to help families navigate these difficult conversations.

“This tragedy reminds us how precious and fragile life is,” said one school official. “We ask everyone to hold the Ogden family close in their thoughts and prayers and to continue supporting one another during this heartbreaking time.”

Funeral arrangements for Cadyn Ogden are expected to be announced in the coming days. In the meantime, the South Central Calhoun Community School District will continue offering support and honoring his memory in the days and weeks ahead.
