WEBSTER PARISH, La. — A Webster Parish family and community are mourning the tragic loss of a young man after an apparent accidental shooting claimed his life on Wednesday evening. Sheriff Jason Parker confirmed that 23-year-old Dalton Taylor died as a result of an accidental gunshot wound at his home on Dorcheat Road, near the Evergreen community.
According to Parker, deputies were dispatched around 5:00 p.m. to Minden Medical Center after reports came in of a victim arriving with a gunshot wound. Taylor had been rushed to the hospital by private vehicle, where emergency room staff immediately worked to save his life. Despite their efforts, Taylor succumbed to his injury.
Investigation Findings
Sheriff Parker explained that investigators quickly began interviewing witnesses and gathering information. Based on the preliminary findings, the death has been ruled accidental.
“After speaking with witnesses, it was determined the death was accidental, not the result of foul play,” Parker said. “Apparently, his handgun accidentally discharged, striking him in the lower abdomen.”
The body has since been sent to Little Rock, Arkansas, where an autopsy will be performed to confirm the exact cause of death.
Community in Mourning
Dalton Taylor’s sudden and unexpected passing has left friends, family, and the Webster Parish community in shock. Just 23 years old, Taylor’s life was cut tragically short by what authorities describe as a devastating accident.
“This is truly a tragic event and we offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends,” Sheriff Parker added. “They will be in our prayers.”
