OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma City Police Department has confirmed that a woman has died after a serious crash late Saturday night in southwest Oklahoma City. Authorities identified the victim as Loni Cox, who passed away at a local hospital after being transported in critical condition.
The crash occurred near SW 149th Street and Interstate 44, a stretch of roadway that authorities say was the scene of a chaotic series of events. According to initial reports, officers first received calls about an unresponsive individual inside a parked vehicle that was positioned in one of the lanes of I-44. When emergency crews arrived, they determined that Cox’s vehicle had been involved in a single-car crash.
Investigators believe Cox may have struck an object on the roadway, causing her to lose control before the vehicle veered off course. The exact circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation, and authorities have not ruled out additional contributing factors.
Oklahoma City Police confirmed that no other injuries or vehicles were involved, and no additional victims have been reported at this time. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation provided assistance with traffic management as officers conducted their investigation into the crash scene.
Local residents and passing motorists described the area as particularly dark at night, which may have complicated visibility. Police have not yet stated whether road conditions, speed, or impairment played any role in the crash.
The death of Loni Cox has left family and friends devastated, with loved ones describing her as a kind and caring woman whose life ended far too soon. Tributes have begun circulating on social media as the community mourns her sudden loss.
Authorities stress that this remains a developing case and encourage anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the moments leading up to it to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department’s traffic investigation unit.
